Treverton Preparatory School is first and foremost an academic School of 250 pupils and we are justly delighted with our academic prowess which is based on a very strong skills foundation and achieved through a balance between Outcomes Based Education (O.B.E) and traditional methods. Strong Academics - In The ClassroomThe KwaZulu-Natal curriculum - designed to prepare pupils for a successful transition to College life - is followed and importance is placed on:
The innovative incorporation of Drama, edu-skills (researching, speaking & listening, thinking, reasoning, non-fiction writing), guided self-studies, project work, Art and Design & Technology skills into the curriculum is key to achieving this. We also offer the normal Independent School smaller classes (one per Grade and two each in Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7), and have highly committed, well-qualified, most enthusiastic and caring staff. Strong Academics - In The FieldYear-appropriate environmental studies are undertaken throughout a pupil's Preparatory years but from Grade 6 onwards (and especially in Grade 7), there is a particular focus on using the richness of KwaZulu-Natal's topography, historical sites, nature reserves and cities as a natural classroom for studies "in the field". This is continued on campus at the Preparatory School's own dam, environmental education centre and the Treverton Wildlife Area (complete with resident zebra and various species of buck among others). Whatever is learned outside of the classroom is then systematised in presentations prepared in one of the Preparatory School's two computer centres using available 21st century technology. |
