Official Guinness Recognition of Treverton’s World Basketball Record

August 2009, to many at Treverton College seems to be another era; it was the month when Treverton basketball players put in an exhausting and impressive 82-hour non-stop Basketball Marathon in a bid to achieve a Guinness World Record. Now, five months later, Treverton College has received official recognition from the Guinness World Records that their achievement has been accepted by them.

The school has received the official certificate, which states:   Guinness World Record Certificate: "The longest basketball marathon was 82-hours achieved by Treverton College (South Africa) in Mooi River, South Africa, on 7-10 August 2009”.

Basketball coach Rob Wyatt-Minter, who joined the Treverton staff in 2008, and was responsible for the organisation of the school’s 2009 bid to break a world record, believes that this may be the first time that a South African school bid has been recognised. He has been involved in other basketball attempts in the past.
