Technology Print

Treverton Schools have committed themselves to the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) skills across the curriculum from pre-school to Post Matric to prepare pupils for life in a technology-dependent world.

Hardware

The campus is served by a 256kb permanent link to the Internet and all students from Grade 4 upwards have their own login, server space and email address. The Prep and College Campuses as well as the Executive Administration Centre are linked by a fibre optic backbone which further supports a number of wireless networks reaching all our College hostels and most staff houses.

IT Department

Full-time technical IT staff oversee a network of more than 200 PC’s in labs, libraries, classrooms and offices on both campuses and in the Administration Centre. The two computer labs at the Prep and two at the College have supervised access to Microsoft Office applications, educational software, encyclopaedias, Internet, email and printing. College boarders all have access to power sockets and the wireless network for their computers in the hostels.

Impact on the Curriculum

Prep pupils and Grades 8 and 9 at the College are taught computer skills as part of their course content for the year, but the emphasis is on integrating these skills into the curriculum rather than studying computers as a topic in their own right.

Treverton College is a registered International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) Training and Testing Centre. All pupils have the opportunity to obtain the necessary skills and write the examinations which will afford them this internationally-accredited qualification.
