The Five Founders of the Treverton Trust who re-established the school, were men of Baptist persuasion. They were the Rev Dr Syd Hudson-Reed, Prof John Jonsson, Dr Derek Hudson-Reed (RIP 2003), Mr Wilfred Harland (RIP 1998) and the Rev Rae Trew.
Their legacy is entrusted to a Board of Governors who are responsible for broad policy setting, and for appointing the Head Committee that has operational responsibility for the strategic and day-to-day running of Treverton Schools.

Mr L. J. Winterbach

Vic Winterbach is the former Director of Student Academic Affairs at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and holds degrees from the University of South Africa, and a Certificate in Theology from the Baptist Theological College. Vic has extensive experience in legal, financial and public administration and human resource management. He became a member of the Board of Governors in 2000 and served as Chair of the Finance Committee from May 2002 to May 2005. He was elected Chair of the Board of Governors in 2004.

Mrs D. Davidson

The association with the Trew family is continued through Debbie Davidson as she follows in the footsteps of her father, Founder Governor, the Rev Rae Trew. Debbie attended Treverton from 1979 to 1984 and was head of Trew House in her Matric year. She became a member of the Board of Governors in 2001 and was elected Vice Chair of the Board in 2007.
Debbie is a Human Resources Consultant in Johannesburg. After 18 years in the corporate world, she has started her own HR Consultancy business.

The Rev Dr S. Hudson-Reed

An act of faith on the part of Syd Hudson-Reed, a man of vision and energy, led to the establishment of Treverton. He saw in the derelict buildings of Peter Binns’ Treverton, a chance to fulfil his dream of a private Baptist school in South Africa. He mobilised and inspired the team who brought the school into being.
Syd is a graduate of Rhodes University and has ministered in Bulwer Road Durban, Salisbury, Trinity Baptist Port Elizabeth, Rosebank Union and Central Baptist Pietermaritzburg. He served as chaplain to the armed forces in WWII and later became Travelling Secretary of the Student Christian Association of SA. During his years as a Baptist minister, his passionate interest in all things historical led him to initiate and chair the Historical Society of the Baptist Union of SA. He is the well-known author of several books on the history of Baptists.
As the Founder Governor, he has served on the Board in various capacities, including that of Chairman. Sadly Rev Dr Hudson-Reed passed away on the 4 May 2010. He is survived by his wife Jean who lives in retirement in Cape Town.

Prof J. N. Jonsson

As the first friend that Syd Hudson-Reed approached, John was involved in the negotiations to purchase the Treverton property in 1962. The Founder Governors appointed him as Chair of the School Council during the creation of the new Treverton. A pivotal point in moving Christian businessmen to support the venture was the death of John and Gladys’ young son David, whose memory is perpetuated in the name of the Prep Chapel.
John was working as an electrical engineer when he was called to Christian ministry. Throughout his distinguished career in the Church and Academia, in South Africa and the USA, he has remained deeply involved in every aspect of Treverton.
He has qualifications from Natal Technical College, Natal University, Spurgeons College, and London University. He has also held positions at the Natal University, Wits, South Seminary (Louisville, Kentucky), Rueschlikon Seminary (Switzerland), University of Indiana, and Baylor University (Waco, Texas). While there, he initiated the African Studies Programme.
He has served as Principal of the Baptist Theological College of Southern Africa, President of the BU of SA and President of the SA Baptist Missionary Society.
On retirement from Baylor University in 2002, his achievements were recognised when he was awarded Professor Emeritus.
They have settled in Howick and are often seen on campus.

The Rev G. R. Trew

Rae is a retired minister, having pastored Baptist Churches together with his wife, Eileen for more than fifty years. Rae holds a Diploma in Theology from the Baptist Theological College in Johannesburg (1955). He served on the Baptist Union Executive from 1970 to 1975 and was President of the Baptist Northern Association in 1974. The Founding Governors appointed Rae as secretary while the new school was being created in 1962.
Their youngest daughter Debbie now serves on the Board of Governors as Vice Chair.

Mr J.E.M. Campbell

Monty has lived most of his life in Pietermaritzburg where he matriculated at Harward High School. He was involved in the world of finance until he and his wife, Geraldine, established their own Real Estate business, Natal Property Consultants, in 1967.
He qualified as a Chartered Secretary in 1968 and served as Chairman of the local branch of the Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa for several years.
The Founding Governors appointed Monty as treasurer while the new school was being created in 1962. He has been on the Board of Governors of Treverton since the inception of the School and has served as Chairman. Because of the vital contribution he has made over the years, he has earned the love and respect of Treverton and has been given the title of Life Governor.

Dr H.F. Israel

Formerly a teacher and Head of Department at Phoenix Technical High School, she was appointed Head of Department of Applied Language Studies at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth. A Fulbright scholar, she is a graduate of Baylor University, where she also acted as research assistant to Prof JN Jonsson (Director, African Studies Programme, Baylor).

The Rev B. J. Jardine

Brian Jardine has had a long association with Treverton during various periods as a Pastor of Baptist churches in the Pietermaritzburg area. His main portfolio on the Board of Governors is chairman of the Spiritual Guidance Committee.

Mrs S. Jones

Sylvia Jones has a Masters degree in research psychology. Her experience includes such diverse industries as education, healthcare, financial services, IT and advertising, and she has been involved with research conducted for Treverton Schools. She started her own research agency, Lodestar Marketing Research, in 2008. Sylvia is the daughter of Founder Governor Prof John and Gladys Jonsson.

Mrs R. Lees

Roslyn Lees attended schools in all four provinces, and then studied at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg where she met and married her husband, Alf. Their sons Duncan, James and Neil matriculated at Treverton College.

Mr B. J. Noël

After matriculating at Maritzburg College, Barry studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban where he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Quantity Surveying. In 1974 he registered with the South African Council of Quantity Surveyors as a Professional Quantity Surveyor. He is also a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Barry is currently Chief Quantity Surveyor with the National Department of Public Works in the Johannesburg Regional Office.
His interests include music; he is one of the serving organists at the Rosebank Union Church.
He has been a governor for more than two decades. His father, Harry Noël, was an early governor.

Mr B. Skinner
Chairman of the Finance Committee

Brian grew up in Queenstown and attended Queens College. He read for a B.Com degree at the University of Natal and served articles for his CA at Coopers.
Together with his wife Glenda, he manages the finances of the Natal Baptist Association and also had the privilege of being a Trustee of Khulani Haven, a project caring for children orphaned due to the AIDS pandemic run by the Natal Baptist Association.

Dr A. D. Staples

Having attended Selborne in East London, Alan had the privilege of teaching there for two years after qualifying at Rhodes University with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry and an education diploma.
He joined the staff of Treverton College in 1973 as a Physical Science teacher. Further correspondence studies resulted in his B.Ed, M.Ed and D.Ed degrees. He was appointed as Headmaster of Treverton College in April 1980 and Chief Executive of Treverton Schools in 2004, until his retirement at the end of 2007.
He is married to Brenda. His three daughters, Lynn, Pamela and Susan all matriculated at Treverton College.

Adv R. Raubenheimer

Advocate Robin Raubenheimer retired as KZN Superintendent-General for Traditional and Local Government Affairs and of Safety and Security on 31 December 2001. He continues to serve on the Ingonyama Trust Board. Robin and his wife Marion are both Anglican Lay Ministers, while Robin is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Diocese of Natal and also serves on the Diocesan Property Committee and Legislation (Canon Law) Committee. Robin and Marion have one son, David.

Mr J. C. Sutton

John was born in the U.K in 1941. He became an "African" in 1949. He was schooled at Christian Brothers' College in Pretoria and Marist Brothers College in Johannesburg. In 1962 he started a career in the motor parts and accessories industry and in 1984 he started his own motor spares agency.
John was a parent at Treverton from 1986 to 1991. He was invited to join the Board of Governors in 1989. His main role on the Board, amongst other duties, is liaising with the Gauteng Parents Association.

Mr R. Röhrs

Ronnie has lived in the Estcourt area on a dairy farm most of his life. He has served on the KZN Parents Association for the past 6 years, the last two as chairman.
He is married to Heidrun, who teaches Grade 2 at Treverton Prep; they have two sons, Andreas and Domenik, and one daughter, Stephanie. All three children have attended Treverton since Grade 1. Andreas and Domenik matriculated, and Stephanie in matric at the College.

Mr N. Coetzee MBA (Neth) BA (SA) IRDP (Stell) DiP BUS M (EE)
Executive Head

Mr Noel Coetzee was appointed to the post of Executive Head from 1 January 2008. He came to Treverton from the business world and with his focus strongly on strategic planning, marketing, communication and human resource development and management he adds a powerful new perspective to the management of Treverton.
He is married to Mandy and they have a daughter and son who matriculated from Treverton.

Mrs L. Parrish

Linda Parrish, Chairlady of the Treverton Gauteng Parents Association, has served on the committee for the past three years. She has a daughter at the College and works in a corporate events business in Johannesburg.

Mr D. Spowart

Dylan currently chairs the Old Trevertonian Association. He is a second generation Trevertonian who lives in Rosetta and works in the district.

Mrs M. Rowney

Moyra is presently Chairlady of the Treverton KZN Parents Association. She is a professional marketer involved in independent education and lives in Howick. A widow, her son, Paul, matriculated from Treverton in 2005 and daughter, Sarah, is currently Head Girl at the College.
